Building communities – seminars and forums

Start date: 17/04/2026
End date: 17/04/2026
Location: Sede GAL Porta a Levante, San Cassiano (LE)

Seminar: “Territorial Development and Economic and Social Sustainability”

How can territorial development be reconciled with economic and social sustainability, while activating local resources, community ties, and shared forms of valorisation?

Within the framework of the Building Communities cycle, promoted by the School of Performing Arts and Community Care and the P.L.A.C.E. Research Laboratory for the 2025–2026 programme, the seminar will reflect on:

  • the interrelation between territorial development and economic and social sustainability, understood as mutually embedded dimensions in the construction of context-sensitive and enduring development processes;
  • the role of local communities in the valorisation of material, cultural, and relational resources, through practices of participation, shared responsibility, and collective activation;
  • the contribution of philosophical, economic, and social thought to the critical understanding of development processes, with particular reference to local, marginal, and peripheral contexts.

Speakers

  • Giovanni Tarantino – Researcher in Philosophy of Law, University of Salento
  • Francesco Fistetti – Former Full Professor of History of Philosophy, University of Bari
  • Francesco Salustri – Associate Professor of Economics, Roma Tre University
  • Gabriele Petracca – Director, GAL Porta a Levante
  • Rossella Stefano – Entrepreneur, Rossella Stefano Agricultural Company, Uggiano La Chiesa (LE)

Discussion and debate will be facilitated by members of the Research Laboratory.

The seminar will be held in a blended format (online and in person) and is open to participants of the School of Performing Arts and Community Care as well as to the wider public.
