Seminar: “Memory, Archives and the Public Reception of History”
How do archives and cultural institutions contribute to the construction of collective memory and shape the ways in which communities receive and interpret history?
In the fifth seminar of the “Building Communities” series, curated by the P.L.A.C.E. Research Laboratory for the 2025–2026 programme of the School of Performing Arts and Community Care, we will reflect on:
- how archives contribute to the construction of collective memory through practices of selecting, organising and describing sources;
- which criteria guide the preservation, accessibility and mediation of documents over time;
- how communities interpret, share and rework narratives of the past;
- the role of cultural institutions in caring for, transmitting and enhancing historical memory.
Speakers:
- Giovanna Bino – Head of Archival Units, Italian Ministry of Culture (MiC)
- Elina Gugliuzzo – Associate Professor of Early Modern History, Pegaso Online University
- Aurora Savelli – Associate Professor of Early Modern History, University of Naples “L’Orientale”
- Enrica Salvatori – Associate Professor of Medieval History, University of Pisa
- Loredana Parmesani – Art Critic and Art Historian, Istituto Europeo di Design (IED)
The seminar is open to all members of the School and to the wider public.
