Program description:
The National Ph.D. Program in Digital Transformation is designed to train a new generation of researchers capable of leading technological innovation processes in public and private sectors. The program promotes interdisciplinary research on the design, implementation, and evaluation of enabling technologies, with the goal of improving individual and collective well-being, quality of life, and organizational efficiency. With a strong focus on inclusivity, privacy, and human-centered approaches, the program equips candidates with advanced skills in data science, artificial intelligence, biomedical engineering, blockchain, and educational technologies. Doctoral students will engage with both technical and social disciplines, combining knowledge from STEM fields with expertise in pedagogy, psychology, and social sciences, fostering a comprehensive vision of the digital transition. The program actively contributes to the goals of Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and the national strategy Italia Digitale 2026, by addressing key enabling technologies and supporting the development of innovative professional profiles.
Objectives:
The program aims to provide candidates with the methodological, scientific, and professional competencies required to analyze contexts of technological adoption and to guide the design and deployment of digital innovations. It fosters critical analysis of the risks and opportunities associated with digital technologies, particularly in terms of health, well-being, education, and social inclusion. The doctoral path enables candidates to become digital scientists who can evaluate and drive digital transformation processes based on scientific evidence and measurable impact. Through applied and theoretical research, students will be prepared to collaborate with academia, industry, and public institutions to shape a sustainable and inclusive digital future.
Curricula:
- Education
- Health
- Green and Industry Management
- Human-Centered Technology & Well-being
Requirements:
Admission is open to candidates holding any second-cycle (Master’s) degree. Applicants are selected through a public competition which includes the evaluation of academic qualifications, the submission of a research project, and an oral interview that also verifies proficiency in English.
