International Conference on Museum, Technology, and the future of Cultural Memories.

Start date: 02/10/2023
End date: 02/10/2023
Location: Città della Scienza

Pegaso University hosted the first International Conference on Memory and the Future at Città della Scienza in Naples. The event marked a significant milestone in the university’s research efforts in the field of Digital Humanities, with a focus on Digital Heritage, Literature and Cultural Practices. The initiative brought together internationally renowned experts, including members of ICOM – the International Council of Museums – and scholars from diverse disciplines, to discuss the challenges and opportunities posed by the integration of emerging technologies in cultural heritage preservation and enhancement.

The conference explored how the relationship between memory and technological innovation can be reinterpreted through digital tools such as photogrammetry, virtual and augmented reality. These technologies enable new approaches to documenting, preserving, and narrating the past, offering immersive experiences that speak to contemporary audiences while safeguarding the integrity of historical and artistic heritage.

At the heart of the event was a reflection on the importance of maintaining continuity between the past and future, highlighting how cultural heritage is not a static repository but a dynamic and evolving legacy. Discussions emphasized that technological advancements should not be ends in themselves, but tools for creating accessible, ethical, and meaningful pathways for cultural engagement.

By fostering a dialogue that is both forward-looking and rooted in tradition, the conference successfully positioned the museum as a hybrid space—a crossroads of memory, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The project, aligned with Pegaso University’s strategic vision, reaffirms the role of Digital Humanities as a crucial field for shaping the future of cultural practices in the digital age.
