Ermelinda De Carlo

/ Researcher /

Ermelinda De Carlo is a Researcher (RTT) in Experimental Pedagogy at Pegaso Online University and is qualified as an Associate Professor (Level II, M-PED/04). Her work focuses on the transformative potential of narratives as educational and evaluative tools, particularly in making so-called “invisible competencies” visible within educational contexts. Her research spans digital storytelling, eco-narratives, and shared read-aloud practices as strategies to promote personal sustainability, guidance, and community engagement.

She is an expert in the certification of competencies across formal, non-formal, and informal learning environments and has taken part in various national and European research projects. A significant part of her work is dedicated to initial and in-service teacher training, with a strong emphasis on educational innovation, inclusive technologies, and the evaluation of teaching practices in both physical and digital—sometimes immersive—environments, including the metaverse.

Throughout her career, she has developed numerous collaborations with companies and non-academic stakeholders, firmly believing that educational innovation emerges at the intersection of research and real-world practice. In partnership with Giunti Editore and Campus Store, she co-developed and patented MagicPages, a digital tool for inclusive reading. With BioSelfLab srl, she designs narrative and autobiographical tools to explore skills and identities. She also collaborates with Hybrid Space System on cross-media narrative games, as well as with INDIRE, FONARCOM, and several universities, contributing to the design of teacher training programs and the assessment of educational innovation impact. https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0586-2692
